A spirit moved. John Harvard walked the yard.

Hello, friends who rhyme sometimes.

Have you read Seamus Heaney's Villanelle for An Anniversary?   If not, read it. Right meow. Even though it sounds like I'm joking because I just made a cat noise. I really think it has to be one of the loveliest, most mysterious poems I have ever read. There is something so delicious about the whispery quality of this poem. You know there's a secret in here somewhere, and your fingertips barely graze it.

But I'm waxing poetic now, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Here's the poem:

Are you digging this poem? It's a villanelle. Don't know what that is? Check out this awesome post on the villanelle form. Try writing your own villanelle and let us know how it goes!

If you like it, pin it, share it, print it out, memorize it, AND tell us why. But only if you want to. (Read: pretty pleeeeeaassseee :)) Until next time!

Do you want to see a poem or quote get a makeover over at Floodmark's inspiration station? Leave a  comment on this post or shoot us an email. We don't bite, I promise. Well, except that ONE time, but that was because someone sent us a really terrible prose poem. (Note: I'M KIDDING. Sort of.)
