Freewrite It: What's Your Journey?

If you've followed our freewriting prompts before, you know that we like to freewrite on one of two things: images or words. Sometimes, the easiest way to freewriting is to allow yourself to be inspired by an image, whether it's art in a museum or a surreal manipulated photograph. Sometimes, it's easiest to take inspiration from a quote. For today's poetry prompt, we're going to do a little bit of everything.

Both of your editors are currently journeying to new places in life (aka, jobs), so in solidarity with our life changes, we present a journey-inspired freewriting prompt to you today. This is a three-parter, so if you're looking for a quick writing prompt, you may want to save this one for later. If you have about half an hour to spend with us, go ahead and scroll down.

When your pen and paper are ready, freewrite for ten minutes with the following quote as your inspiration:

Feeling good? Take a breather, because this prompt isn't done quite yet. Clear your mind from the last exercise and turn to a new page. When you're ready, freewrite for ten minutes on one, or all, of the following images:

You're almost done. This is the last installment of today's freewriting prompt. Freewrite for five minutes on the following questions:

1. What is your journey? What are you travelling towards? How are you getting there?
2. Do you travel alone? Do you journey with others?
3. If you could be anywhere in the world (or universe) right now, where would that be?

You made it! If you did all three prompts, chances are, you have a ton of material to edit into a poem. Whether you choose to edit only one chunk of freewriting or you want to marry all three, we hope you've enjoyed today's poetry writing journey. (P.S.: feeling chatty? Tell us about your freewriting experience in the comments!)
