Today, we're going to keep this prompt short and sweet. Sometimes, my favorite poetry teacher would just hand us photos and we'd all write in silence for awhile. And you know what? It was pretty effective. Sometimes you just need someone to set something down in front of you in the right perspective.
In the wake of all the social and political change lately, I've been thinking a lot about
bridges. About how they connect us. About how we build some from bricks and some from words. And...about how easy it is to burn a bridge. But it's more than that for me---bridges feel so safe to me. I look down at the flowing water beneath me and I think how unsafe it should feel to be suspended with no support right above it all. But you know, it's kind of beautiful.
There's your perspective. Here are some bridges. Your task? Choose a bridge and free write on it for 15 minutes. Attach a story to it, place yourself somewhere on it, whatever tickles your fancy.

Build that bridge. Tear it down. Sit at the top of the arch. Set it on fire. Essentially, do what you need to do to write the poem. Be the bridge between your mind and the paper.
