Submit Today! Floodmark's White Elephant Poetry Contest!

**THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED**

See below for updated details.

(Or if you need the quickie version:

Submit by May 6 for consideration in our awesome contest!)

This is a white elephant with tattoos who is super psyched to enter our contest.

Happy National Poetry Month, writers, poets, artists, and everyone in between! In honor of the month and to celebrate YOU, our favorite creative folks, we're running a poetry contest. It's free to enter, and everyone gets feedback from the Floodmark editorial team. (In case you're wondering who those people are: Alexandria Petrassi, Gary Miller,  Rukmini Girish, Vernon Meidlinger-Chin, Alyssa Froehling, Padraic Price, and Kelsey Kammerzelt.)

>>> All the information you need to submit to our nifty little contest is right here.  <<<

While we really, really want  you to read all those rules at some point (they're important!), if you clicked over and were a little overwhelmed, here's the highlight reel:

1. The Prize

It's an inspiration swag bag aka a box (okay, so it's a swag box but that doesn't sound as cool) full of handmade, hand-picked, and found items that we think will inspire you. It's a prize only a fellow writer would appreciate. Some of the ideas we've been brainstorming so far? A favorite used book, some handwritten poems, a fortune teller (yes, like in middle school), a hand-written letter, polaroid photographs, etc.

2. Timing

The contest runs from April 11 - April 30. But! We have extended the deadline by a week, so submit by midnight on April 30 May 6 to be sure your entry gets in! We'll contact the winner on May 16 May 23 to figure out how to get their swag bag/box into their hands. Feedback on all poems will be released throughout that week -- be patient as we tirelessly type out feedback we think will help improve your poems, and (we hope!) bolster your confidence as a writer. We're so excited to read and engage with your work!

3. So what do I have to do?

Send 1 - 3 poems to floodmark.editorial@gmail.com in PDF or Word Doc format. Send us your name and your email address. If the poem is previously published, send us the previous publisher and let us know if it's OK to repost. Be 18 years old. Live in the good ole USA or Canada.

4. Yes, there's a catch -- but it's awesome, we promise.

By submitting to our contest, you consent to receive our bi-weekly email, which will be launching this summer. We promise we're not spammy jerks, we're just making it easier for you to read our glorious content. And let's be real -- out of all the stuff landing in your inbox, wouldn't some writing inspiration be a nice reminder to crack open that notebook? We like to think so. Please remember, you can unsubscribe at any time if you find us annoying. We'll forgive you.

Okay, now that we've given you the highlight reel and you're interested in submitting, go back and read those rules. And then submit!! We're anxiously awaiting your submission and can't wait to read your work.

As always, thanks for being so darn awesome. We love you all. Happy National Poetry Month!

    1. Hello, Abe,

Ah, nuts. I'm sorry! However, here's a silver lining: if you'd like to send us your work, we'll send you feedback -- separately from the contest (so it won't count as an entry, unfortunately), but we love to read and give people our two cents. If this is something you're interested in, please note that you live outside the US/Canada in your email and that you're submitting outside the contest.

      Have a great day!
