Photo Inspiration: Smeared Skies

Hey there! Looking for some inspiration?

We've got it in spades today. Let's take a peek at our newest discovery and obsession:

Matt Molloy's photo project, Smeared Skies.

Note: this is not Matt Molloy's Smeared Skies.
This is the GIF-version of Patrick Star in a Edvard Munch painting.
This just illustrates how excited I am for the following photos.
The project features photos that have hundreds of images stacked on top of one another to create the effect of "smeared skies". It's absolutely gorgeous. Think of the best sunset and the best sunrise you've ever seen, smush them together, and then multiply it by 100. Then you'll have photos like these:

The link attached to each picture will take you to a page where you can read more about the project, the process, and find more examples of Matt Molloy's art. (Just in case you were curious!)

Now, before you go dashing off to sell your soul to Matt Molloy, god of the most beautiful photographs you have ever seen, don't forget your daily writing prompt!

Here's what you're gonna do:

Step 1: Choose your favorite photo from this series.

Step 2: Stare at it for awhile.

Step 4: Freewrite for 15 minutes. Describe how the sky looks in your chosen photograph in as much detail as possible. Don't be afraid to go beyond "normal" descriptions. Play around with unexpected simile, metaphor, and let your chosen photo take your mind to memories, other artwork, and anything else it stumbles upon in your quest for inspiration.

Step 5: Name your poem "Smeared Skies". Pull your best lines from your freewrite and create the poem.

Step 6: Share your work if you'd like by leaving it in our comments section for others to oogle or comment on. If you'd like, you can submit your work to us to potentially be featured on the blog or in our soon-to-be lit mag. You can find all the info you need on either of these in the "Contact Us" page located in the upper left hand corner.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed your short and sweet photo inspiration. Now, go on and stalk Matt Molly's life. You know you'll find me right there with you!
