On Repeat This Week: "Open"

source
Good day, friends! Ready for another easy writing prompt? Plug in those headphones, because we're getting ready to rock....well, maybe not rock. But we're going to enjoy ourselves, damnit!

We love using music to inspire our writing prompts, and trust us when we say that the song in today's poetry prompt is a golden track. Last time we gave you a listening prompt, we chose to use a video where you could also watch a story develop, if you chose to look instead of listen. Today, we're relying on your ears, and your ears alone.

Tender, sweet, and sultry, this song is a beautiful piece of work that I've loved from the first few bars of the intro. It's a slower, softer jam, so if you're feeling hyped up, you may want to wait until you have a quiet morning or a rainy day to write. Without further adieu, we present Rhye:

Your prompt is simple: listen to this track once, twice, or as many times as you need to get a solid few pages of freewriting. Look for themes in the lyrics; dig for phrases in the sound of the song. Write a poem to match the melody. Whatever you like!

Pssst: Want to start making a playlist? You can find our other music-inspired writing prompts here and here.

While listening to this song, what phrases came to you? In your freewriting, did you notice any repeated themes that were inspired by the music? Are you most inspired by lyrics or sound? Drop a comment below, and let's talk music. And poetry. Because we love them both.
